Companion service is for individuals who require a service that is not based on initiating, building, and/or maintaining a skill set. Rather than focus on habilitative outcomes, companion service is utilized to explore and develop a person’s preferences and interests as they relate to recreational and leisure activities. Staff assist individuals with locating, planning, and participating in activities of their choosing. Staff may also assist individuals with basic self-help activities; grooming, personal hygiene, decision making, exercising, household chores, and meal preparation. Companion service may be rendered in the community, at the individuals residence, or a combination of both settings.
